  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Safety case, review documentation. Sometimes get to visit plant. Looking round is very interesting and is better than sitting in the office. I also attend meetings and have the option to book on training courses, these are always interesting. I also have e-learning's to do, which are pretty boring and slow.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learning lots about the nuclear industry, some IT skills. Collage is good tough, most the content is just a repeat of A level. But the electrical and mechanical is interesting. And the maths is a good refresher of things I've forgot, especially as I've been out of education for three years.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Love the collage work, its very interesting. And doing all the content in one day is hard but its fast paced. The materials we need are available online so, you can catch up during the week and having a desk job means I have enough time to do the work there.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure was poor when we started, we where put on a bridging course , and told nothing of where we where to be working and what our jobs would be. since getting to site it has become more clear but the companies organisation structure is poor and its slow getting anything done.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • No a huge amount as my line manager is quite busy, but I get enough and there is work and resources available for me to look through. The other staff in the office are more help full in explaining the job description and helping me find work to do regularly.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Quite a lot. The bridging course was appalling, we had to be there 40 hours a week and where only taught for 13. However the course is a lot better now there teaching us all the time we are there and providing assignments and resources regularly. It is very good.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • There has been little, use for my collage work yet as we are doing mostly inductions at work and cannot start advanced work. although, hope fully it will become more useful and we will get to do more hands on work. The nuclear knowledge we gained on the bridging course is applicable.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No, a lot, the office are friendly. But having only been on site for 2 months I haven't seen anything advertised. Also not living in the area mean it would be trek to commute to social events as I spend 3hrs travelling each day anyway. But im sure activities are available if I searched for them.
