  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Team working and communication skills are focused on heavily. Communication between immediate team members and external contractors is essential to deliver project deadlines quickly and efficiently. The use of online database systems has taught me how to record and communicate information in a manner that is of significance to a variety of different disciplines.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work aspect of the apprenticeship is interesting and provides appropriate and regular challenges. We are regularly encouraged to get involved with projects outside the immediate scope of the apprenticeship even if it is only as a bystander to understand the process a project must endure. The educational aspect of the apprenticeship is satisfactory.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The work aspect of the apprenticeship is well organised despite being a relatively new programme and it is obvious that LFE has been utilised. The apprenticeship started its first year last year and so that intake have inspired the structure of our welcome programme. The educational aspect of the apprenticeship lacks flawless organisation and could be improved.

The team have a natural comfortable environment and a positive attitude towards aiding the development of others. Colleagues outside my team show a similar manner of approach to any issues and interactions.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The additional support from the training providers is readily available and can be of invaluable use. There are additional sessions regularly available for anyone that feels as though they are struggling and that would benefit from extra assistance. Despite the occasional lack of organisation, most points of contact within the training provider are keen to provide additional support if required.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The civil scheme is relatively new and so the degree is attached to another quality degree with a handful of additional civil units. As it stands, little within the degree is applicable within the work place and a more specific degree from the offset may be worth considering moving forward.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • To my knowledge, there are no extra-curricular activities available as a consequence of the apprenticeship. If any extra-curricular activities are available such as those of a sporting or networking nature, they are not well advertised and encouraged. Regardless, they may not be essential and may not enhance the quality of the programme.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Sellafield Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Based on my personal experience and the desirable work condition I have been exposed to. I am regularly away from my desk attending numerous site visits and I am constantly exposed to new experiences and areas of concern. I have been lucky enough to be placed within a busy, friendly team that readily involve me in projects.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sellafield Ltd?
  • There are many degree apprenticeship pathways available, of which some have been running much longer than others. My advice would be to research the pathways well before applying so that all options may be considered. I would also suggest to request a curriculum for the degree prior to employment as the content of the degree may not be of interest to everyone.
