  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I collect my van in the morning, drive to the job providing we has all the tools needed, then work depending on the work that needs to be done, either work on a node to splice fibres together or assemble and fix CBTs, all to provide connections for our customer.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, the job has been great so far. I have learnt how to manage my own work time, arrange and collect the resources and equipment required and continued to strengthen my skills as a team player as my job involves working in small groups, usually between two to five of us.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my programme so far. My NVQ assessor has been really helpful whenever I've needed help. The programme is well structured and has useful and relevant content. I have recommended the traineeship to friends and family so this indicates how much I have enjoyed the programme so far

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured. We are given set days to complete our NVQ work and we are always aware of exactly what work we need to do. If we are ever in doubt, as mentioned, we are able to contact our assessor who is very helpful all of the time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive excellent support from my manager, other managers in the business as well as my NVQ assessor. This has been great so far and I feel very lucky to be working for a manager that has the care and efforts for each of their staff members. It's been great

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive endless support from my provider. This has helped me from the beginning which is reassuring, especially when you're new to business. I don't often have to ask for help but I know that help is there as and when I need it. Thank you very much!

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I don't think that the programme really helps me to perform better when doing my daily tasks. I would say that the programme helps to refresh your memory of exactly what's needed and expected from each of us in our daily roles but not significantly. It's been useful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I haven't participated in any other extra-curricular activities at work so far. I would like to if I get the chance as I think it would help to build and strengthen relationships with other team members. It would also be fun and enjoyable working with colleagues outside of the normal roles.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Openreach has been really fun, interesting, supporting, and welcoming. I always tell my friends and family how much I enjoy my time working for this company and explain the benefits that come with the job. I have worked at many businesses and Openreach is by far the best company I've worked for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I would tell others to be themselves, show the passion behind wanting to take on the job they're applying for and think strongly about the work that you'll be doing. I've always been keen on wanting to work within telecoms and be hands-on, mobile and working as a team player.
