  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is data management so includes running reports, creating references for employees and ex employees, approving job requisitions, approving personal information changes and ordering employee contracts to name a few. We are also involved in a few projects involving employee files and converting paper files into digital online files. There are frequent meetings to keep up to date with the whole business to ensure objectives are aligned and we are all on target.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt a lot since ive been here. I have learnt to use new systems such as Remedy, Workday and PeopleSoft. I have developed my communication skills and confidence massively. I have developed team working skills in new ways. I have developed analytical skills from reports and pulling data from contracts.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed working at GSK. I feel it has already given me so many opportunities as an apprentice. I have had the chance to shadow a lot of work streams to gain understanding of other roles in the support centre. I enjoy working in a corporate company. I definitely think it was a good route for me to take instead of university

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There was slight confusion between communication of the length of the apprenticeship as its shorter than originally planned meaning a years experience In 3 different work streams is no longer optional. However, I still feel I will get a good amount of experience in the year and a half and there are so many opportunities given to us, it is very organised.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], my line manager offers a lot of support. There are so many learning, development and resilience opportunities as an apprentice at GSK and I feel that there is a lot of support. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] and I have a bi weekly meeting and is always keen on new ways that she can provide help, support and opportunities.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I feel a little less support from my training provider as I only meet her once a month but the support is still good and thorough when it comes to it. It is good to have an out of office provider just incase there are any queries/issues that my line manager may not be able to help with.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am doing the CIPD through Avado and I feel that its giving me a good understanding of other aspects of the company. I am learning the text book things about a large organisation at the same time as learning hands on. I think this is a great way of learning.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes I have signed up to the woman's leadership community which involves a lot of networking events and events to do with women's leadership. I have enrolled in the IP mailing list as there are always opportunities that they deliver for networking that involve the other apprentices across GSK. We sometimes go to courses that relate to our qualification and resilience events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • its a great company to work for. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and I feel I have fit in well. The apprenticeship programme is an excellent opportunity as it includes 3 years experience in a HR role as well as doing a qualification. As mentioned before, GSK provides so many opportunities which is great.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
  • Come prepared with a lot of examples of scenarios. I had to do an assessment centre where they analysed alot of different skills, one was team based. In this case make yourself stand out but not too much that you over power everyone else. Be confident and just be honest with your answers.
