  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In the morning we were able to have discussions with people who worked at Pinsent Masons in a range of roles. This was interesting as it gave us a wider view of how the firm works. Then we met our supervisor and went to their sector (we had one supervisor in one department for 3 days and one for 2 days). They taught us how to do different things, depending on where they were working, and talked to us about paths into law and the best ways to achieve the training contract. We would go into work at 9:30 and end at 5:30.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt lots more about how law firms, Pinsent Masons in particular, work. I also learnt more about the different types of law, and the multiple ways into law. One of the best aspects of this course was that you were able to talk to many trainees, solicitors, associates and even partners about any questions that you had.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my work experience programme, and although the application process was extremely long - it was incredibly rewarding and I would recommend it to anyone (to people who are considering law and even people who aren't considering law, but want to learn more).

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I received and extremely large amount of support from my first supervisor - and even other people working in the sector. My second supervisors gave me less support (but were willing to give me more)as they were so busy with work.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Work experience is a great programme to do, as you learn so much about law and are able to work on real cases and you can speak to anyone regarding any of your questions. This also provides many opportunities, especially for young people (this course is aimed at 17 to 19 year olds)as it shows that you are using your initiative and thinking about your future.

  • 9. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • As I said previously, this work experience was one of the most rewarding schemes I have taken part in. You learn throughout the course and are able to ask any questions, all of which will be answered immediately. Work experience always looks good to future employers and also for your personal statement for university - showing the range of opportunities acquired from completing this. Overall it was one of the best organised work experiences that I have done, and I honestly would recommend it to anyone.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • Think about your application when writing, check for grammatical errors and try to make yourself stand out. The application to this is similar to a job application - a tip would be to write your answers in word and then copy them over to the online form, as these answers can also be used for other things.
