1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am an access planning apprentice for Virgin Media. My day to day roll involves planning how our business customers can get our service. This includes surveying the site, putting together job packs, and then costing the job. Our business customers vary from schools, banks, offices and many more

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

By the time I finish my apprenticeship, I will have received a level 3 qualification in telecoms, as well as other qualifications such as NRSWA which have been obtained over the 2 years. I have learnt surveying skills which I previously had no experience in. I have also developed my communication skills with customers as well as to other colleagues across the business.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Over the course of my 2 year apprenticeship, I have thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship. There have been times which have been stressful and not well organized, however I have never not wanted to come into work. There is a great office atmosphere and everyone in the office is always happy to help no matter the question.

4. How valued do you feel by Virgin Media?

Most of the time I do feel valued at Virgin Media. I do feel like my work is appreciated by the comments from my manager and my team. However I do feel like the team as a whole could be appreciated a bit more.

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

This apprenticeship has not been well structured throughout the entirety of the apprenticeship. At the beginning, the course was running smoothly however part of the way through there was some major changes that I believe the company was not very well prepared for. This caused confusion across the apprentices.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

I do receive a good amount of support form virgin media. the employees are happy to support and assist. They are sometimes a bit hard to get hold of but when they do respond, they are helpful and supportive.

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer has been very helpful and supportive through the entirety of the apprenticeship. At times the team have been very busy and they have still managed to find time and resources to help us progress our skills and learn our job.

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

I believe that the salary and package that I receive is very good for my age and my skills. the commute into office is a bit more than I would like however, I don't mind doing this in order to learn and develop myself. since I got the apprenticeship, our salary has increased significantly due to department pay rises.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

currently there are little or no opportunities that happen outside of work.

9. Would you recommend Virgin Media to a friend?

9b. Why?

This has allowed me to obtain a skill and develop my skills whilst earning a good wage.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Virgin Media?

Don't worry about the interview process, they make you feel at ease which is very assuring.
