I am an internal tooling developer, developing web applications to support the engineering and release management of a product. My daily tasks involve anything from excel metrics, managing active directories and security audits to facilitating the delivery of tooling which will reduce the time taken, and improve the quality of product delivery. I am working in a team which is made up of very senior managers and have been exposed to very valuable learning experiences in both observing and having the opportunity to interact. Externally I do not have as much activity as my project is not directly client facing nonetheless I do understand a lot about client relation management.
I have earned Splunk Certification, passed my Professional Scrum Master level 1, learnt to develop web applications with JavaScript and Python as well as system administration and deployment with Amazon Linux and Database administration. I have undertaken many plural sight courses, participated in hackathons. Learnt how to manage my time more effective for best results, embodied mental model approach, strengths based growth. Discovered so much about myself in the process.
The work is great, I have not once been sitting around wishing I was somewhere else. I have been lucky to have been on the same team since the beginning, the team is great. The company culture seems to reflect what you might expect from an external perspective which is fair however I have heard stories from working on client sites which I think it is safe to say can have an influence on the Accenture team culture. The experience has exceeded my expectations.
I feel valued, appreciation won't necessarily be a daily thing but in the long term we are rewarded - same as any workplace. I have been recognized internally for my effort through award nominations. Externally the brand of Accenture is well recognized and I am lucky to have it on my CV. I am very highly valued on my project.
Induction was bad, as we were thought to be graduate intake and given induction that was much harder than many of us could manage. Training from there has been great, I have received all the resources that I need to complete my study. There has been a disconnect between our study and work, speaking for myself I have felt like I have managed since I am know what I want to do. This is being addressed by ambassadors who are inside the company and will help us to elicit how the requirements our degree demands can be met on our project work. I am autonomous in my work, flexible working and given a large workload to manage by myself. Delivery of our study has moved however from QA to University East London for any new joining apprentices following the feedback that my peers and I provided over the past few years.
My tutor is accessible for feedback on my work throughout the semester. The tutors are generally very motivated and have a background in the industry with great real world stories to bolster their lectures with.
My manager is great! HR team is as helpful as they can be, sometimes problems just don't fall under their remit or it seems they don't have an inclination to assist but I feel that this is just an aspect of working for a large corporation.
I moved to London from Scotland, I would say the scheme has not met my costs as I have invested a lot of my own money into rent down here. If you are not willing to live like a student whilst trying to work in a professional environment then I would not recommend relocating for an apprenticeship with Accenture.
There will be opportunities to go for project funded drinks and dinners depending on the project you work for. We get 3 charity days a year, and there are sports clubs to join if that's your thing.
