  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a network implementation engineer. I am in a major project where we work with one of the leading UK banks. within that project, me and my team are upgrading their data centre as a lot of their devices coming close to their EoL. furthermore, there some security issues that we were tasked with resolving. I work mainly with a brand of enterprise firewalls called FortiGate. my day-to-day usually involves remotely accessing those devices and configuring them and getting them set up in time for our go live. beside project work, I am also involved in organising social events for my project and the wider UK operation. for example, I organise an escape room/restaurant for individuals who got recognised by their colleagues for their hard work

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • every day i am learning more about the devices I work with. some I have known about before but never had a deeper understanding like firewalls, and other devices I never heard before such as Load balancers. Accenture always give fantastic opportunity to gain qualifications from some of the most respected network qualification vendors. for example, I am currently studying for my CCNA qualifications which my team encouraged me to take as its essential for any network engineer. I am also a Certified Meraki Network Operator which my project signed me up for. I have also not only learnt many technical skills but I have developed personally also. especially my confidence. I always had a fear of public speaking and presenting. to help me overcome this weakness, my manager encouraged to do a FortiGate brownbag (a presentation to follow Accenture colleagues on topics of your choosing). the brownbag was successful thanks to my team’s support, I also gotten a good feedback from the management within the project. furthermore, as part of the social team that organise various events for operation Accenture. I learned how to organise successful events. I have recently become one of the leads for something called thank you Thursday. this is a monthly event where we take individuals who gotten nominated for their work by their colleagues and we take to fun activities such flight simulation, mini golf, escape room, etc.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • we had a 2-week induction at the beginning where anything important that we need to know was explained to us. since we the first apprentices that Accenture operation took on, there has been some minor issues but the thing is we a monthly meeting with the apprentices leads in Accenture where we give them feedback. they always take our feedback seriously and try (so far, every time successfully) to resolve any issues we had. we also have a career counsellor (this always a manager in a different project) and mine has been fantastic. he always makes time for me whenever i want to talk to him about something. his advices have allowed me to better understand my project and the work i do
