1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
I am the planning and packaging co-coordinator at Vauxhall Luton plant. My job role consists of ensuring we are receiving the correct packaging, and correct amount of parts, whilst monitoring deliveries. Where possible I aim to make cost savings through optimizing the container types and quantity of parts and deliveries. I have to contact suppliers daily to communicate when they require to deliver in different packaging.
2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have learnt how to use new IT programs, as well as key communication skills. Having to communicate daily with suppliers has allowed me to gain a professional skill, knowing how to word emails correctly in order to get what I need to be done. As well as this, I have learnt new skills and techniques from my University degree that I have been able to apply within the workplace.
3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I have enjoyed my programme so far, both at work and at University. working in my team has been enjoyable, as well as working with my other peers at university when required to. It has met my expectations of what I first thought it would be like, and I have enjoyed my time so far.
4. How valued do you feel by Vauxhall?
I feel valued by Vauxhall as I get appreciation when it is due. the boost of being appreciated motivates me further to want to be more successful and continue doing a good job. feedback from both work and university is useful as I can use this in my own personal development to further myself as an individual.
5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
The programme is well structured. I had all the required training given, as well as continuous support from both work and university on any problems that may occur. we are given time to study during the week which helps aid in lowering my stress load and allows me to get my tasks done.
6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
i receive plenty of support, especially with our assignments. we are given briefs to help explain the assignment and the given powerpoint lectures to help us understand more. they lecturers are always available to contact and get back to us with any problems we may have to do with the course.
6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
I receive plenty of support with tasks both at work and at university. any problems I have they help with, providing advice or supplies that may help me solve my problem. always asking about the course and how its going and how im finding it, providing me more support and making me feel more comfortable.
7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
Our salary is a decent starting salary, and location and travel costs for myself aren't too expensive.
8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
There are plenty of opportunities outside of work for socializing and helping out the local community. company events, meals, football, etc. are all available. i have attended the work football before and its very fun, allows time to interact with others within the workplace that you may not have spoken to before.
9. Would you recommend Vauxhall to a friend?
I would recommend Vauxhall as it is a good opportunity, with the degree, that allows you to further your personal development and career. they are supportive and the environment at my work (currently the luton plant) is very enjoyable and friendly.
10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vauxhall?
If I was to give advice to others applying I would say to be confident, be yourself and sell yourself. They are looking for people who are hard working and dedicated and show willingness. There are plenty of opportunities and the application and interview process is good experience regardless of if you get a job or not.
