I work as a application support engineer I develop and investigate bug fixes as my primary role. Along side this I do a variety of development work for our internal team with a multitude of different languages. Consistently I am required to communicate with clients and my colleagues. Working within my role requires the ability to learn different skills very quickly and under pressure.
I have developed knowledge of approximately 8 different programming languages within my role. I have also attend training courses on Node.js and the agile framework. Outside of technical skills I have had the opportunity to develop my written communication skills.
Personally I love my role as it has accelerated my career and education at a much faster rate then any other opportunity that was presented to me. My team is incredibly supportive and assist me in my training and we have received support from the company throughout our time.
Whilst at Accenture so far I have consistently received positive feedback from a multiple managers which has helped to reaffirm my abilities and makes me feel much more valued. Apprentices at Accenture are also given a large amount of trust and decision making ability which empowers them to achieve greater things. Apprentices being nominated for awards such as employee of the month shows that apprentices are highly valued within Accenture.
My training program consists of two primary parts. The first is my on the job training this is incredibly flexible and adapts depending on the current needs of my team. This aspect of my training is very self driven with support from my team as I believe is needed. My team leader has regular one to one meetings with me to ensure my progression and to allow me to ask for support. Task delegation is given purely based off what arises and is flexible enough to allow me to push myself with much more complex tasks. The degree side of our apprenticeship occurs once a week and has a clearly defined syllabus with a variety of assignments required.
Our training providers/lecturers can be easily accessed via email and responses are always quick. They have so far supported us and guided us through any tasks where we request assistance.
Support is provided when needed and regular one to ones ensure that if I am being overwhelmed by university plus work I can raise this and therefore change my work load/ receive the appropriate assistance.
My salary comfortably covers all my costs plus allows me to save a reasonable amount of money. For our location and roles our salary is very appropriate.
We regularly have technical clubs as well as social/volunteering opportunities. Company wide there are some incredible events which really help to improve the belief of self value felt with Accenture.
Yes
Accenture allow for a fantastic and very rapid education that can really push self driven apprentices to produce incredible results. This plus the care given to apprentices in terms of support means I would recommend the apprenticeship at Accenture to anyone who is keen and serious about really pushing their education further then is possible in a standard institution.
I would say to make sure you are truly passionate about technology and delivering high end products. Then I would make sure you complete training around your interested field wherever possible.
