I am currently learning and working on Integration of new sites into a new network programme for the company, enabling better customer outreach, connection, and customer experience. My day-to-day role includes modifying sites to enable them to have customers placed on them, and booking in and completing tests to make sure the site is functioning correctly.
I have gained a qualification in telecommunications, received internal training on all of the aspects of the company and the job role I am doing now aswell as for previous. My people skills have definitely improved and I have gained confidence also.
I enjoy coming into work and tackling something different everyday. I am supported with very helpful, understanding and friendly colleagues whenever I need assistance or teaching on subject matters. I would say I look forward about coming to work, which is always a positive.
I receive regular updates from my manager about my performance, and praise where necessary. And I am recognised by my other colleagues when I have completed a task well, which feels very rewarding and encourages me to keep working hard.
I feel as though some of the training I have taken part in could have been better, for instance powerpoint slides and handouts were not really very hands on and informative about certain roles I did in the past, which made the job harder to pick up. However in my new role I had a more hands on taking the wheel approach, which I feel worked miles better, and being surrounded with colleagues who can support me feels good too.
I receive help from my NVQ advisor who assists me on my BTEC course, and whenever I am stuck I know I can just contact him and he will get back to me when I need the help.
My manager has always been very very friendly and understanding with me, be it on a professional and personal level. I know I can go to him for any help and questions I have.
I think the salary which I earn is fantastic considering my age (21) I can survive comfortably throughout the month after paying off any bills etc.
There are events that happen for apprentices, e.g. visits to the BT archives, or BT tower in London. The company also encourages it's employees to volunteer and help out in and around the community which is great.
Yes
Overall BT is a very rewarding place to work, it does have some ups and downs -as do most jobs- but I feel that the positives outweigh the negatives heavily. The people at work are great and super friendly and the work is fun to learn and pick up. The fact that I know my skills as a person and as an employee of BT have developed since I started work here is so rewarding.
Be yourself and think outside of the box. Take the application process step by step, and when it comes to the interview, be relaxed, and explain any thoughts and ideas you have, it also helps to do your homework on the company, as it shows interest.
