  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have been involved in roatations around various areas of BT Security, gaining experience in a range of areas before being able to chose one for my final year with a view to assimilating into this team. Currently my daily role involves discovering and assessing cyber threats to BT and our customers while writing advisory reports on the subject. I also have a side project currently regarding a certain framework and if we can incorporate it into our estate.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • With our degree course alongside the on the job training I have learnt how to program in multiple languages, perform forensic analysis as well as a knowledge of networking

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • While initially I did not enjoy the programme as I felt we were underutilised, over time BT Security have learnt how to incorporate apprentices into their program, I now very much enjoy what I do dailt.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • BT have always been known to value their employees with a range of benefits such as shares discounts and wellbeing through pensions deals, the same offers are available to us helping to create an environment that it is a company you can live in.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Initially the program had zero structure and this lead to us not being utilised for a year. Yet since new leads have come in the program is taking shape well and I will be leaving it in a much better state than when I started the role

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training at University can sometimes be difficult as distance learning limits how we can communicate. despite this the support was adequate

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In addition to my manager and my team, I have an apprentice coach and apprentice manager I can turn to for support, weather it is related to my job or personal

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is an average amount which for myself living at home is fine, for others who are more independent possibly not. However we understand the pay when we leave the apprenticeship is more comfortable and an impressive package for people of our age. Additionally BT Shares, company discounts and pension benefits help make this overall an attractive package

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Socially, BT has a fair amount of opportunities as everyone is a big family, as well as this it is common for people who leave BT to stay in touch meaning the opportunity for more company activities BT also does a lot of volunteering, bringing opportunities here too, such as children in need

  • 9. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Solid pay, good job security, ability to progress as well as do a lot of different things, plenty of training aopportunities


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Be yourself on the interview day, BT tend to look for someone who will fit in to the office as much as someone who can excel at the job. The latter can be taught after with training
