  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • At the moment I am in my first rotation working to help BT support our supply chain by managing systems that are used in the warehouses for us and other companies to ensure that they work properly and as they should.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, through the training courses I have developed and learnt plenty of new skills such as coding, keeping our systems secure and how to generally be the best I can at my job. I have also learnt how to code and even though this is at a fairly low level I am still happy that I have been able to learn this important skill too as I know it is important for my job and role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme, not only have I learnt a lot about the business but also about how to push myself and how to develop my skills within IT. I've learnt lots of things I never thought I would be able to achieve which I'm happy with. I am really happy with how things are going within my job role and it has exceeded my expectations for sure.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • I feel really valued, even as an apprentice I am still regularly involved in large scale events and important meetings which I wasn't really expecting too much before I joined the company. I have received lots of positive recognition through 'e-cards' and verbal feedback which helps me to know when I am working well and on the correct tracks which is really good and positive.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of my programme is fairly well organised, everything when I first joined was well laid out and well set and organised, I have had some great support from my team too recently for my studies and exams which has been really positive. I have also been having 1-1s every week too which I have really enjoyed and I feel really helps to support me in my development really positively. The task delegation has been good as well, sometimes there is a lack of jobs to do but I manage to ask for something else or find work to do.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I go to university so they provide a fairly good amount of support too, I have been to the university to speak to them about how to efficiently revise and just generally to help better my understanding of the format and the course which I feel was really helpful and beneficial too. I have had a positive attitude towards supporting me from my team too, whenever I need a 1-1 or a chat then my manager is more than happy to pop into a nearby room to discuss something.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received lots of great support from my employer, my manager has regular one to ones with me to make sure everything's going well and to provide any support where he can which I have found to be really good and beneficial for my development. There is also a really friendly and positive attitude towards supporting me too which I really like and there is a really good accessibility for my mentor too.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is really good, I am happy with the amount that I am paid and I feel that it meets my costs fine which is good. I don't have any travel costs or location costs as I live fairly close to the site so I just bike in to work most days. The salary also increases every year as well to accommodate different costs that I may have too which I like, there is also a great salary at the end of the apprenticeship when I assimilate which I am happy with.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There's lots of opportunities outside of work to help get involved with either giving back to the local community or to get involved with company events such as going out for meals or playing sports and there is a lot of opportunities to get involved with events outside of work. There is also the opportunity to get involved and volunteer to use my 3 days volunteering to go out the office and volunteer to help out with the local community which I think is a great idea. I've helped out run events at local schools too which I enjoyed.

  • 9. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel that the BT apprenticeship is really good, not only do you get on the training in a great company but you are also receiving a competitive salary and you get a degree at the end of the apprenticeship too, I have already recommended applying to a few of my friends and they have actually gone on to getting a role here which I think is great. There are lots of opportunities here and I really like recommending these to friends.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I would definitely recommend that for others applying to BT that they attend as many events and get the most amount of support and help that they can to ensure they are in the best possible position to get an apprenticeship, I would also say to only apply if you really feel like this is where you want to work too. If you only half heartedly want to work here then there is no point applying because it is important to have a passion and enjoyment for where you work and what you do.
