  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • network design apprentice at BT: Each day is different working on a range of contracts such as Royal Mail, health and social care network creating network designs, configuring routers, switches and firewalls working on a range of equipment from range of different vendors.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I go to university for a week every month doing a BSC is IT and Networking. Time each day allocated for training and development working in network test labs in order to develop skills and gain industry qualification like Cisco's CCNA/CCNP

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • -Working on a range of different contracts each reqruiing a different skillset. -Vast ammount of training and devleopment -Each day is different

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • I have my own set of reasonability’s working across a range of different contracts doing a variety of jobs e.g firewall audits, racking and stacking equipment and fulfilling work requests to replace networking equipment.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Have an extensive range of support with a buddy, mentor and 1 - 1 with my manager each week. You have time each day allocated for doing UNI work and time for studying towards your industry qualifications. The contracts that I work on I can pick what work requests that I want to pick up.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • When you go down for block release at UNI you get a range of support if you are struggling with any work.

  • Have an extensive range of support with a buddy, mentor and 1 - 1 with my manager each week.

  • I live at home with minimal costs. The salary is fair given the amount of training you receive

  • A range of events such as awards evenings, nights out, and planned events. Mandatory voluntary work required each year

  • Yes

  • Amazing opportunities to work on a high profile networks, extensive range of support and funding towards training and development
