  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Managed Services, The department provides a managed customers service to a number of corporate customers, managing their IT Assets. I have carried out 3 different roles during my apprenticeship. Change Management, Tool, Configuration & Innovation and Service Desk. All of these role include working alongside my colleagues to ensure we are delivering the best possible service and liaising with customers to help with their requests. Within my different roles I had a number of different responsibilities which included hosts Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings, adding new customer assets into our monitoring platforms so that we can proactively monitor their devices and raise incidents and changes at the customers request.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • At the end of my apprenticeship I will have gained a foundation degree in Computing Infrastructure. During my time here I have gained my ITIL Foundation qualification which the company paid for. I have also been given the opportunity to sit the Cisco CCNA examination which would be a great achievement to get at such an early age.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the work aspect of my apprenticeship as all my colleagues are more than helpful when I need assistance and they are always pushing me to learn and develop new skills. The company have been really accommodating for me as I have specific medical issues which they took onboard and provided my with the best equipment to assist me when doing my job. They have offered me a number of different opportunities including going to different conferences across the United Kingdom to develop my skills.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • My apprenticeship manager values all the apprentices within the company by taking time to ensure we all are getting the treatment we deserve and also provide us with the opportunities that we may not get elsewhere.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At the start the program was slightly unorganised as I wasn't told where I needed to be on my start date until last minute. When we started we also didn't have access to the building which caused some disruption. However afterwards the program was well structured as we were given roles and projects throughout our time here.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We have a specific training manager would has been great with pushing us to do a number of different courses that will benefit us and develop us for our careers.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am fully supported by my employer as they constantly push us to develop our skills and gain new skills as well. Any issues that have arose have always been dealt with promptly and efficiently.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary and benefits have been very accommodating as we receive a number of different benefits and are salary is very competitive.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a number of social aspects that BT offer both as a department and for the company as a whole. They offer different add-ons on top of our standard package.

  • Yes

  • It is a great company to work for as they provide you with a number of great opportunities including a competitive salary.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Get as much experience as you can even if it means volunteering to get the experience. Make sure you are confident while in the interview and ensuing you can show that you are team player.
