  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role is as an angular developer. Day to day i'm in meetings for technical discussions on things we are working on, documentation, programming, testing & software architectural designs. It varies day to day among these tasks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • From the university side, I've been able to learn a lot of software engineering and business concepts that have been applicable to my working environment for the most part. On my project I've learnt a multitude of skills. Some of the technical skills that I've been able to pick up: - Python, JavaScript, Angular, PHP, API Documentation Some of the soft skills that I've gotten better at: - Presentation, Communication, Time Management (Scrum Methodologies) Accenture provides many opportunities to learn and develop yourself, but its up to the individual to take these opportunities on board and make the most of it. I haven't been able to so far, but there's always emails to go to week long training courses on new technologies and methodologies.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • A lot, I guess this always comes down to the projects that you work on but my own experience work wise has been good. There have been times where I've worked on things I don't like, but clearly communicating this and having discussions with the team I worked for resolved this.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Accenture?
  • Accenture being such a large company some would say they feel like "just a number", but I've found that the teams & clients that I've work with have valued and enjoyed working with me. In addition to this the Accenture colleagues & my manager have always given me productive feedback that has been documented internally in our performance tool which Accenture has recognized and rewarded me for. The projects that I've worked for have let me always engage in the technical discussions and respected & taken aboard my opinions and views where appropriate. Some discussions I have no input in but my manager would always bring me along so I can understand how those discussions affect our work,

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Induction: So, the first month was focused around a "Java" Bootcamp. The first week giving a really good introduction into a deeper understanding of how the scheme works and more on engaging and interacting with the wider Accenture organisation. The following weeks were spent on teaching us Java, which I felt wasn't the best way to start as its quite a verbose language and it might be more appropriate to learn Python (easier to learn for beginners & faster to get technically upskilled quicker). In addition to this programming is just one of the many "roles" we could potentially do so it might be better to give an overview of different kinda of roles with an explanation of what it is and what's involved with pointers to resources for us to self-study what we find interesting. Training: So the training provider that I'm with is QA (2016 & before joiners study with QA and the University of Roehampton). Some of the courses have been really enjoyable where I've learnt a lot, others I've found to be not as productive. Support: We have access to a people adviser from the Accenture side for any issues & a skills coach from QA for any academic related queries. Also we have a careers councilor who we would regularly talk to on a monthly basis and a buddy from the year above us. Was your programme well organised: For the most part, the programme has been organised well. At times there have been mix up in dates for our university workshops.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Able to easily reach out to course tutors to ask any questions, who are generally happy to help out & guide. The training has been enjoyable for the most part, some modules have been quite poor.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Buddy system, career councilor, peoples adviser & a separate mentor system if you would like someone to mentor you -- Accenture supports their employees a lot.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • For my personal circumstances (living with parents) -- the salary is good, and due to working on projects located far from London my accommodation, travel & food is covered during the time I'm at client site. Otherwise travelling to London is costly (4-5k) but still comfortably manageable.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There is always company wide events going on ranging from socials, pizza making events to hackathons! There is always room to get involved in something outside of work.

  • 9. Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a great company to work for that gives you a chance to work on variety of projects (which has its good and bad as you may be pushed to work on something you don't like, but its up to you as an individual to express you're disinterest & network to get to where you want to be). Always great people to work with.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
  • Properly understand what Accenture is and what we do & have a look into a few case studies. Have a general and broad understanding of whats going on in technology today helps & be prepared to give examples of situations you've previously been in and how you have handled them (Situation, Task, Action, Result format). Be confident.
