  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Title - Design Engineering Technician Apprentice Description of role - Working on various projects in different departments based on rotation. Current placement in mechanical engineering requires me to design a piece of test equipment and create a 3d model. I speak to other engineers in other departments as well as my own to get the information I need to complete my job.

  • I have leant how to use CAD software.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Work - enjoyable and engaging Team - current project has a lot of individual work but the teamwork is good as well. Company - A lot is going on and theres interesting projects running I enjoy work and it met my expectations.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Leonardo?
  • I feel valued when working, however losing 7.4 hours and having to work this back due to a red snow warning made me slightly question how much employees are valued.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is fairly well structured has been fine for me in terms of rotations around departments.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The college is quite good at providing the necessary support most of the time. however there are a few isolated issues where we have not received the support we expected and required.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have not been in the situation where I required much if any support with any issues but the support I have received day to day has been good.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Salary is fair however if I was to be renting property within a commutable distance I would struggle to meet costs with my salary.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many social events outside of the workplace which can be attended as well as the opportunity to engage with local schools through careers fairs and the STEM ambassador programme.

  • Yes

  • Great place to kickstart a career in engineering


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Leonardo?
  • Only real tip would be to stay confident at interview.
