  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • This placement involved working on lots of different clients. This variety of clients meant that a variety of roles was carried out within audit, taking part in main FSLI items like Cash, equity and accounts receivable. I was able to carry out not only the audit aspect but also get involved in planning and completion. This was helpful in seeing the whole audit process.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by PwC?
  • PwC really value the work you do as a person. Managers are always first to say Thank You which can go a long way. They pay you while on placement and got taken out for lunch which helped to make you feel valued and part of the team. They cover all expenses and treat you very well. As you work with different teams it can depend who you work with and how friendly and thankful they are fr the work you perform.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course is well structured in having University to gain an understanding and learn along with having time to prepare us. Being able to apply the knowledge learnt at university was helpful on placement. Having the placement also strengthens and equips you as a person especially in preparing you for revision.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training provider didn't provide much support while on placement. However, I feel that this is not her responsibility but rather the employers. She did however ensure that we were happy with what to expect on placement and ensured that we were always aware that she was there if we needed anything. She also checked in mid-placement to ensure that we were all coping. Knowing that she was there if we needed was very helpful. But as I say I I feel it is more the employers responsibility.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • PwC offered a variety of support. We had training days prior to starting our placement, buddys who were friendly and ensuring we were settling in when on placement. People Managers were always a phone call away, although at times were slow in responding, making it difficult. We also had staf meetings so we were more aware of the office.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Salary costs are covered really well. PwC provided accommodation while on placement which was very close and convenient and covered all bills. This was especially god that they recognised that we were still paying for our University accommodation. This course also covers the costs of our book, notepads, pens The salary was appropriate of our grade and work and was certainly helpful and rewarding getting paid. It was even more good that overtime was recognised and paid for especially when we were on long hour days.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • PwC didn’t offer too many opportunities outside of work and If there was these were conversed very well to us. While there are Netball and football teams having further groups to help us actually get stuck in and get to know more people would’ve been helpful. Another aspect is socials in the office. My office only had one social the whole time at the office making it difficult to get to know the office.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Just try your best and dont be afraid to ask questions. Try and get stuck in with getting to know colleagues. This will help feel welcomed and also a good way of expanding relationships. Use the five PwC's attributes and values and apply current examples that show you have these abilities. In all the work performed it was all team work. Taking work from colleagues if you were waiting on somethings and ensuring everyone is coping. Always be friendly and approachable.
