  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a flying start 2 in the Newcastle office, we are a junior member of the audit team. This involves picking and testing samples for the simpler areas, documenting all your own work and supporting other team members. It involves client interaction as well as interacting with more senior team members and staff at PwC. Every day is different with a variety of clients and jobs to work on.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my confidence and communication skills, not only within PwC but out of work also. As we progress through the degree we will qualify with exemptions from 12 of the 15 professional exams as our degree is written to ascertain these alongside a normal degree.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my degree programme. It is challenging but rewarding and exceeded my expectations. It also relieves the pressure of trying to find relevant work experience in the form of summer placements, internships etc. The university staff are incredibly helpful and check in with you whilst youre on placement.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by PwC?
  • I feel like I am a valued member of the PwC team. I am remembered by clients and the PwC staff from placement to placement. People managers review your progress and give you feedback to help you improve.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I find the organisation and training very well done. The degree is structured to meet ICAEW requirements as well as provide us with the best knowledge before each placement.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We are allocated people managers and buddies within PwC who we can go to with any problems. We also have office 'champions' who are ex-flying start students within the office you work in, they are also available for any questions. There is also the programme manager and university staff who keep in touch over the placement period.

  • We are allocated people managers and buddies within PwC who we can go to with any problems. We also have office 'champions' who are ex-flying start students within the office you work in, they are also available for any questions. There is also the programme manager and university staff who keep in touch over the placement period.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary meets living costs and expenses are provided if/when necessary for a job. This ensures you're not struggling throughout your placement. PwC provide accommodation if you are not 20 miles from your university location or home. This means you are comfortably living within commuting distance to work.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • If you wish to be involved, there are sports teams as well as group socials. There are also opportunities to do charity work (weekly trolley) and volunteer opportunities which come in weekly emails.

  • Enjoyable employer to work for.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Be yourself. Do you research and be up to date with current affairs. It is not necessarily about technical knowledge, this can be taught. PwC invest in you as a person.
