engineering apprentice Review

my job title is an engineering mechanical apprentice. my daily tasks include writing reports, helping out busier people and trying to ease work load. Having only been on site less than a year I have managed to make a lot of connections and can get help no matter what sort of issue arises. I don't have many external interactions unless its a career event or a school assembly. I don't have many responsibilities as often I get given fairly menial jobs to do to help out. these usually don't have much company impact.

I have learnt a number of new and useful skills in my time here. I have learnt a lot about various different testing methods and how to get a feel for things when they aren't going to plan. I have learnt a lot about different bits of machinery used to carry out various tests. I have really expanded my CAD knowledge with a CAD placement and learnt a lot about modelling and drawing techniques.

I have enjoyed the program and would make the same choice to pursue it again if I were in the same position. the people I have worked with are some of the nicest I've ever met and made sure I felt like part of a team which is incredibly important when you're moving around every 3 months and don't really get a chance to get to know people. the company has met my expectations and so has the program from the way it is run to the quality of staff and experiences provided.

I have felt more valued in some placements than others but overall I feel valued.

the induction process is very detailed and well structured. the training provided is very good quality and always available. the support is very good both educationally and from a HR perspective. overall the program is very well structured with the BTEC, HNC and HND routs all available.

I have received adequate support from training providers

I have received all the support I have needed to this date.

My salary in my first year was not enough to move out on but my second year salary is just enough to get by and move out. my salary has always covered my travel and food costs.

the company both hosts and are invited to a wide variety of events which apprentices are usually offered to go along to depending on spaces. this is great for networking and getting to know external people and companies.

it is a very good apprenticeship scheme and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
