  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in audit at PwC. This requires me to perform various testing over financial statements such as controls and substantive testing. I work regularly with clients (client facing communications), am given responsibility over my work and the coaching of others.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I developed my existing skills on the PwC flying start degree programme where we studied 12 out of the 15 chartered accountancy exams and did placements which gave me practical work experience to apply my exam knowledge

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thought it was a great programme to encourage success and drive your career forward quickly. You are in an environment of people who want to do well and who want to work in top positions in the future. The exams mean you gain knowledge quickly and then have time to apply it on the placements

  • 4. How valued do you feel by PwC?
  • On placement I felt less valued than i do now that I have joined full time. This is because on placement we go in on busy season where it is very manic with a lot of deadlines and you have less time to coach and be coached by others. I also felt the London offices when i first went on placement didnt have a great awareness of what the flying start programme was and where we fit into the pwc structure. This seems to have changed now.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised. The staff student committee meeting has resulted in changes in the structure as a result of student feedback which is always good to know students views are taken on board and acted upon

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We were provided all textbooks from the ICAEW and in the final exam attended the kaplan course which was very helpful with tutors being willing to help at all times. During the uni course, the lecturers were all very approachable whether it was a question about studies or personal life

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have not yet had an instance where I have needed support but I am aware of where to get it if I do find myself in a difficult position as we have people managers/ buddies etc

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Yes for the stage i am at now i am very happy with my salary. It is greater than most of my friends who didnt do the programme as they are either not working, still in study or are on a lower salary.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I have the time now that i work in a regional office to do things i enjoy in the evening such as cooking and gym. They promote attendance at company events, ICAEW events and volunteering. So far i have participated in the pwc pantomime by helping walk school children to a performance which was paid for by pwc for the children to attend.
