  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Completing UK and US tax returns - excel spreadsheet explaining what we have included in the return and a adobe document locating info sent by client that has been included into return. After 1st attempt - a manager will review and ask for amendments given any things we have missed out and mistakes made - we will do this until all complete. Then upload onto software where we generate links and send completed returns to clients - we will ask for their permission thereafter to submit to HMRC. Throughout this, we are constantly engaging with HMRC regarding queries for our clients.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme due to my colleagues - the work itself is okay - not particularly keen on work in all honesty. I do the work I am given to the best of my ability and try to be efficient. Best part - helping new joiners with any queries they have, being the go to colleagues for questions - people are free to have a chat with me/give me work/ ask questions - this is the most satisfying part of the job - might seem cliched but true

  • 4. How valued do you feel by PwC?
  • Majority of team are nice and helpful people - they are happy to help at all times. Some managers are real genuine - they would book a meeting just to ask if all is going well - can they help/assist etc This is what makes me feel valued. Other than that - not much more to add. I go in and do my work and that's all.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • PwC have done well in structuring the scheme - 2 years in these years you will be ATT qualified given all the hard work you will do over the years. Kaplan however are a bit all over the place in regards to how to book exams, if we have to book them ourselves, is there a time limit to do our computer based exams etc - it's not that hard - on one webpage - structure all the things we need to know - do not make it complicated.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Kaplan are my training provider - there study lessons in college are intense and crazy intense. They cannot expect anyone to understand the content or even act as on overview of the subjects. They give out numbers of tutors - but it's not normal to call up ones tutor and ask a random question regarding TAX when they might be celebrating Christmas with their family - this is unrealistic and better if we had more days at college to go through the content at a rate applicable to understand the content. In theory initially, we were told that 70% of revision/studies for exam is on-the-job - this is far from the case - rather perhaps 1% is understood on the job - all the rest of it is left for us to go over by using up our holidays!!!

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • employee allocates managers, and people managers to help you throughout programme - any concerns we can come as a team of apprentices and ask our manager - and any personal issue we have a people manager and a sub team leader to help us at all times. Also, the fact that we are not closely managed allows us to do the work properly and not under stress - perhaps most significant perk as a PwC employee.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • We get paid more than most 19 year olds - more than happy with this - but it is as expected - for we put a lot of hard work in for PwC - we do a lot of overtime etc. Living in London, day to day expense are a lot - thus, the salary offered is respectable but I believe will be increasing. Important to note - I live with my family so my costs are less than others. Some who rent - are struggling.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes - many activities out of work. For example, sports, dinner, movies, ice-skating and more. In regards to opportunities in terms of time outside of work for personal opportunities - given exams/revision and work/overtime - hardly any barring the weekend. During free time, you would probably always be revising. It is difficult - it's a journey - but if you're willing - go for it.

  • 9. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Depends, usually because PwC are a prestigious firm and if you like the work here at PwC it's good. Culture is good barring a few - expected at any firm. Generally - my team is nice - you can ask questions and get advice from your seniors. If you like activities outside of work - e.g. sports, movies etc - you would find many at PwC who would go with you.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Make sure you don't apply for anything just for the sake of getting into PwC - make sure it's something you will enjoy. If you won't enjoy anything - don't apply. If you one who does not like long hours - double check the role you are applying to - you might be working very late hours which might only be stressful.
