  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Flying Start Degree programme - Year 3- St Albans. Working as a junior as part of an audit team to complete core audit, audit planning, statutory audit services to a wide spread client base. Daily interactions externally involve discussing issues and requesting deliverables with the clients management to ensure we can complete our testing. Each team member is responsible for certain areas of an audit e.g. payroll, cash etc to which they complete the testing with guidance from senior colleges.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gone from not knowing what audit is to being about to audit most areas of a company. From this degree program, I will benefit from a BA degree as well as being 12/15 exams towards becoming a chartered accountant.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the part uni, part work experience during my 4 years at university. The company culture is dependant on the teams you are working on; some being more laid back and flexible whilst others are more strict and regimented. The overall placement experience has exceeded my expectations in both enjoyment and skills acquired (both life and work skills).

  • 4. How valued do you feel by PwC?
  • Everyone in the St Albans office are aware of the degree program and value your work. They have high expectations of us which helps us to excel and gain more from the experience. Overall, I felt valued as a Flying Start at PwC.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised; the transition from university to work placement is always smooth whilst incorporating training which is useful. We also have continual support whilst on placement from our people managers who can also help us if we have any issues.

    10/10

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Whilst on work placement, we have little contact with the university programme contacts meaning we can sometimes feel disconnected from the scheme whilst working.

    7/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The use of a people manager means that we can receive support whenever we reach out. Often if I don't reach out, he will contact me to make sure everything is okay.

    9/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I found in prior years, the hours worked in busy season meant that the pay package was not always reflected in my work. Likewise, considering I am doing higher grade work than some full time associates, I feel like my pay should be equal and sometimes higher than theirs; something which it is not. However, the introduction of overtime for flying starts will hopefully lessen this issue.

    6/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Every month the office host after work drinks. Likewise, they host a busy season party in March and regular optional trips throughout this time such as theatre tickets. There is also a football team for the men to get involved in.

    9/10

  • 9. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Good company who value staff and have opportunities for career growth.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • PwC is a highly desired company to work for so, if applying, your application must be prestine to ensure you stand out from competition. With this, you must treat the application seriously and ensure it really is a company you want to work for.
