Private client tax advisor trainee. I mainly work with highly valued clients, helping them with their tax affairs and the occasional advisory work. I have my own client portfolio, which has over 70 clients on, which has given me immediate responsibility. Because of this, i have quickly learned to deal with clients ,myself and take responsibility for chasing tax return information. Day to day, i mainly chase clients and third parties, via email or phone. In addition, i prepared and post review returns, which i have learnt lots from.
I have undertaken many online learning courses, especially in anti-money laundering and compliance. I am working towards my ATT qualification, so attend college three times a month. In addition to the above, i have been buddies with a apprentice that is two years ahead of me. I have found this invaluable as they have been able to teach me the basics, and always there if i have a question! All of the staff and managers are happy to help you, they are never too busy!
I enjoy working for smith and Williamson as i feel very valued. The managers are always letting us know if we do well on a certain client and how we can improve for the next time. I enjoy having a wide range of responsibilities, which is different to how i thought it was going to be.
Very, managers are appreciate and always happy if you offer your help. I also am included on large scale projects, such as looking into blue books for new clients. However, the managers are very supportive if this is something that you have never done before and always happy to help if you are stuck.
very, i have regular meetings with my managers to discuss the progress on certain clients, plus an issues that could come up in the following year. I have day release for college and am encouraged to talk about new things i have learnt.
Tutors are available 24/7 and I was given an email for more general support if needed. The tutors are very helpful and encourage you to learnt the easier parts yourself.
Very supportive, i would say my mangers is very caring and always there if you have a small problem. The intranet also provides a wide range of support if the problem is quite generic, plus cheat sheets and guidance on tax related issues. I would say overall that S&W are very supportive.
Travel costs are expensive as travelling from outside London, but this will be the case in most places. The location is excellent, with many different food and catering places around. There are also many bars close by, which makes for good work drink locations.
Yes, i am attending an apprenticeship fayres and social events over the next few months. There are many social events, which helps to enable HAPs to get to know their managers and collages, especially working in a larger office, the chances are that you may not actually work with everyone and therefore get to now them.
Yes
All of the above really does display that i enjoy working at Smith & Williamson.
Try to impress in the interviews, the manager and partner who interviews you will be working with you, they will only pick the people who come across nice and capable.
