  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I went from department to department assisting trainees and getting an overview of how the firm worked. Some of the work was actually helping the trainee while other pieces were activity based designed to help us. We also completed interview style tasks as a group including things like a mock tribunal, which we all thoroughly enjoyed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt basic legal definitions and procedures. However I feel most importantly it boosted my ability to work with other people who prior to this experience I had never met before. On top of this, we had to do things like presentations so greatly improved all of our abilities to present and speak publically.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I was quite pessimistic coming into the programme and didn't have very high hopes for my enjoyment (although I knew how useful it would be). However I found myself enjoying myself a lot more than I thought I would and for me this is down to the group work that we did.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Pinsent Masons?
  • While we didn't associate at all with any of the more senior members of staff. It felt as though we were making small contributions to the firm despite the fact that none of us had any prior legal knowledge. And although I do not really know how valued we all really were I think it's good we could all feel like we were making some kind of contribution.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was extremely well organised, we were all provided with detailed timetables for our week, including where we were sitting, who we were with and what we were doing. Our supervisors were always on time and had work prepared for us to do, which is vital for us gaining the most out of our work experience.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Each one of our training providers was friendly and approachable so made asking for any help or advice very easy. After each task set they would always go through it with us individually making sure we understood everything we had done which again is essential for allowing us to take the absolute most from this experience.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I did not directly associate or interact with my employer or anyone senior throughout this programme so we did not receive much support directly from the employer. This being said, the amount we received from our trainers says to me that the employer was making sure that we did have sufficient support available even if it wasn't directly provided by them.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • We didn't receive any salary or payment. However, I don't think any of us entered this programme expecting any kind of payment as it was only a week long work experience for people of school age. Personally, my expenses weren't too great because I live locally, therefore only having to pay for food and some transport. However those coming from further away may have had to pay more.
