I started an Advanced Level Apprenticeship with Perkins Engines and started as a HR Trainee. I had 2 placements - one in HR Operations and the other in HR Policy and CSR activities. The placements gave me a great insight into how a HR team operates and what type of activities were involved. For example, I was involved in lots of HR Admin activities from data analysis to process family leave requests. In addition, I got to be a part of a number projects which helped to develop my skills.
Yes. My confidence increased significantly during this apprenticeship along with both written and oral communication. Furthermore, I gained a NVQ level 3 in Business Administration and went on to study a degree in Management. I was given lots of opportunities to develop skills and build my knowledge in HR.
This was the best decision that I have ever made. I really enjoyed the programme and it gave me a solid foundation into the working world. The idea of combining learning and real-time work was the most rewarding part of the programme.
Extremely valued by all members of the team and managers.
The structure and organisation of the programme was ok. There were a number of changes to management when I joined the scheme, however, that being said it did not hinder the programme.
The support was OK from the training provider. There could have been more but it was a self-directed course and the motivation and completion was led by yourself.
Lots of support and guidance. There was always someone to talk to if you were unsure of the answer.
The salary at the time of employment was higher than the standard apprenticeship rate. As you progressed through your apprenticeship, moved to a full time position, the salary increased accordingly.
Yes, various activities put on my different employees.
Yes
It's a great place to start building your career. As it is a global company you have lots of variety and if you have a specific interest in something its more than likely you are able to find out more/be a part of the activity/project.
Be prepared and ensure you have an end goal. What do you want to do? What are your aspirations? This will help the assessment team decide whether you are a good fit and it shows that you have motivation and ambition to succeed.
