  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Business technician, focused in financial controlling. Daily tasks vary from forecasting, interfacing with different TR-O-Xs and their steering departments, reporting and the development of key performance indicators. In the past, I have also spent a lot of time in other departments getting a feel for the wider business and how that relates back to finance.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Whilst obviously it is not the like being a proper university whilst on this course, but with the factor that I do not have to pay for my education but get paid for it is a great motivator. The day to day working environment of the environment has also been very enjoyable.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BMW Group?
  • As an apprentice at BMW it is very clear that you are that the bottom of the pecking order, although with that being said if you put to work in to become valued, people are quite good at recognising this, even though there is a culture of only focusing on bad things.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Form an academic point of view, they structure has been in place for the last three years in order to complete the degree although at time, Brookes were quite appalling in the way that the solved problems. As for the apprentice to being with, it mainly involved me sorting out my own placements.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Certain lecturers form the training provider are fully dedicated to providing us with the tools and information we need to succeed to the best of our ability, but for the most part it has to be said that the majority of lecturers were less than motivated when it came to trying to help us excel.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Personally, whilst it may not be as high as some specific competitors, it has met the majority of my needs, but I do know that some of the apprentices struggle very greatly when it comes to making ends meet every month, due to cost of rent, living expenses and general travel costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • From my personal experience, I have found that there is quite a large lacking of opportunities outside of work that aren’t purely work related( such as careers fairs and visiting schools to advertise the apprenticeship programme) . The only outside of work opportunities are things such as the Christmas parties, in which the majority of organization is done through the apprentices themselves, with no corporate involvement.

  • 9. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would highly recommend a BMW group apprentice programme to a friend as it enables them to further their education and at the same time gain a foothold in one of the largest car manufacturing companies in the world, meaning that the possibilities are endless in terms of career variation.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • If I were to apply again I would try and gain all of the relevant experiences that I possibly could that would be relatable to the industry. I would also heavily research BMW group’s presence in the UK and again a full understanding of their UK based operations, as well as their global based operations and how I can align myself to these principles
