  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • at the start there are 4 six month placements that we do. Currently I'm working in Payments industry team investigating current payment streams and how we can improve and create new systems to help the bank become the best for its customers

  • I have learned critical analysis of sensitive information and how to go about implementing solutions to various problems that the bank faces.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Fantastic so far, learning a variety of useful skills that I can transfer to different fields and to give me a better outlook of working life.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Santander?
  • I'm not really treated as an apprentice, I'm treated as more of just a member of the team and get equal opportunities and responsibilities. This has helped to accelerate my learning.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We work Monday- Friday with university webinar Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We also get every Friday off as a study day so it is a good mixture of working and learning.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We have an online VLE which we can access at any time as well as easy access to help if we need it. They are very keen to see how we are progressing and always ask for our feedback on how to make the university side better.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • They are always keen to know how we are progressing and want to help us learn how the bank operates better. In a way they just see us as any normal adult that they trust and respect.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The full degree is paid for by Santander so there isn't any student loans and we have a good salary/bonus scheme for an apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes they constantly recommend activities that we can get involved in, whether this is charitable events or further learning provided by the bank.

  • 9. Would you recommend Santander to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Great pay/bonus scheme, good support form the bank and from the university. Wealth of options in terms of roles within the bank that will satisfy everyone no matter what preference they may have.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Santander?
  • Research the company, find out their future ambitions not just as a bank but as a technology company. Don't not try and force yourself to be someone you are not just to get the job.
