  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Ethernet Repair analyst, computer office work fixing Ethernet circuits for the whole of the UK, interact with customers daily taking calls and e-chats, as well as through the BT Openreach Portal for these circuits. Responsible for the maintenance of a variety of circuits for a variety of different reasons, working 12 hour shift pattern is also a new experience.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • my computer skills have vastly improved, as well has being a member of a tight nit team who work hard as well as professional, we are a very efficient team who work to the best of our abilities to ensure customer satisfaction, managing between multiple jobs as well as talking to engineers about the equipment and diagnosing the circuits are also new skills I have acquired.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the job I am in, my team are the perfect balance of work and play and all help each other out if one is in need. BT values are key and everyone understands the culture and the values. It has exceeded my expectations and I have been enjoying my experience in this job.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • I feel valued by BT my manager has always been there for me to support me in any situation I have faced in or out of work. I have been recognised by my General manager for my good work and have been praised regularly by my secondary manager.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • my programme is well organised with consistent support from my apprentice coach when required, I have been trained very sufficiently and have been given the correct time for my NVQ studies required, I have 12 week review meetings with my apprentice coach to discuss the next steps and goals as well as my current satisfaction and he is there to support and help me throughout my apprenticeship journey.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a sufficient amount of support from BT and from my apprentice coach who helps with and struggles with my NVQ, I have enjoyed my experiences so far and sure I will enjoy my experiences to come.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive all types of support from BT, from work colleagues to managers to my apprentice coach and apprentice manager, they have helped guide and support my journey.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is very adequate and I am able to afford living costs, save and be able to afford social costs with no worries, working in the centre of Bristol is a gift but also a curse as parking prices are very expensive although there are buses to my job, and BT has an agreement with NCP carpark which greatly reduces the cost of parking.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • My team have frequent nights out together to improve team building, the company also holds many events you can participate in such as the recent 5 a-side football tournament for example.

  • Yes

  • BT has been a great experience for me and would recommend it to any person looking for an apprenticeship.

  • to know the company, understand the job role you are applying for, be prepared and organised and just be yourself.
