  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Network expansion planner, planning fibre to cabinets. Interact with new build officers and engineers and also infill departments in Sheffield.Lots of major projects such as Hammersmith infill and Milton Keynes where we must plan for over 200,000 homes

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Working towards L4 IT apprenticeship. Lots of training when using the companies systems and lots of friendly people around to help

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The people at Virgin are very supportive, and all management are easy to contact. Virgin have a unique way of taking care of their staff by accepting everyone is different. That's why we dress so casually!

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Virgin Media O2?
  • Very appreciated by manager as we make his life easier. You get recognised for doing good work all the time, both inside and outside the company.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • there's a plan for everything at Virgin. Our programme is well laid out by our apprenticeship manager and he offers us support all the time and we have training with him once a month.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We receive 121 interviews every 2 months to assess how we're doing. He is always emailing us and checking we are okay and if we have any issues he'll always be there to sort them out with us. He'd never ignore our calls and always puts us first.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is always a phonecall away when I need him, and HR always sort out any issues you may have. My mentors are always willing to help and understand we are learning. They're there for you both with work issues and personal issues.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As I'm only 19, my living costs are low. However it is a bit of a journey into the office; that's why I car share. It covers all my social costs and the location is in London so easy to access by a variety of transport methods.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There's always company events to take part in and charity days which everyone jumps on. we go and help local school sometimes to help painting etc. There's always courses which we're invited onto.

  • 9. Would you recommend Virgin Media O2 to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it's an enjoyable work space, there's lots of support, the money is great for an apprenticeship and there's always room for pay rises after. There is lots of support here.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Virgin Media O2?
  • Just be yourself, wear a suit to the interview/assessment and seem keen. Do your research on the company like when we were taken over at different points and talk about our values!
