  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Work Experience student, I visited different departments each day and experienced what they do! Every morning, I would complete a basic question sheet regarding information of the department I was in. Departments I visited were; Non-Contentious Tax, Property, Corporate Law and CAD. In the afternoon, I focused on cases for different scenarios. This gave me insight into what which department entailed. Although, unfortunately we didn't get to get involved in more serious stuff!

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely learned that Law is something is the path I want to follow. Working at Pinsent Masons will be hugely advantageous to me. It has allowed me to see what working in an office and what working with big clients would be like. At the beginning, I felt really nervous about doing things wrong but I have became so much more confident in my week here.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed my programme a lot! The other students working along side me were so lovely and hopefully we can stay in touch. The company is such a friendly, welcoming company and almost everyone I met would talk away. They seem to really all get on as a firm as well.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Pinsent Masons?
  • Very. All trainee's were lovely and welcomed me to the department and other colleagues among them. They tried their very hardest to get me involved in as much as I could and spent time with me explaining their background and the departments background.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • All the people working at Pinsent Masons support you. Especially your trainee solicitor, they guide you through tasks and then will encourage you to present your work to them. Presenting this and being told you have done is a huge confidence boost.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As I was with a trainee solicitor for my week here, I did not have an employer. However, I did get to work with those who are higher up and they seem to give great support to employees and even me!

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As a work experience student, it is voluntarily. However, it will definitely benefit you in the future. As I come from Airdrie, travelling here by train everyday is exhausting but I tell myself that without this opportunity, I may not be able to be granted into university as there is so much competition!

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Work Experience at Pinsent Masons will allow me advantage for University and perhaps even a career in the future. I know they definitely provide traineeship programs and summer placements so knowing Pinsents and what the specialise in will allow me to regard it as an opportunity in the future. There are many oppurtunities in my area, however, not many commercial law firms.

  • 9. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is such a great experience. Definitely will make you think about your career and if Law is for you. The people you meet on work experience are all in the same position as you, if not exactly, then very similar and meeting new people with the same interests is great.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • Don't be scared! You will find all the other students on your programme will be feeling exactly the same. Work experience at Pinsent Masons has given me advantage over people who may not have! It gives you such an insight on what really goes on within a law firm. Also, working along side trainee solicitors makes it less scary as they have just been through what you are about to approach. Also, there is no such thing as a stupid question.
