  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Work Experience Student. This has involved receiving various presentations from Trainee Solicitors and working with Trainees in various departments. This includes carrying out research projects.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been able to develop my research skills- particularly through extensive use of legal resources. I have developed more confidence as a result of having to interact with a wide range of professionals.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme exceeded my expectations, especially due to the welcoming nature of the Trainees and the attention paid to me. I have also enjoyed the programme because of the other students, as I have been able to relate to those in the same situation as me and exchange experiences.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Pinsent Masons?
  • I feel quite valued. As a student there is of course a limit to how much I can contribute to office work but I have been given challenging and advanced tasks which make me feel as though the Trainees I work with have high expectations of me.

    9/10

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised. We immediately received various inductions on health and safety, security, and office procedure. The days have been well structured and Trainees have been very supportive and eager to help.

    10/10

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • A lot of support. Everyone is very keen to offer advice on both future studies and careers as well as whatever task I am completing in the moment. Support has been very accessible and if there was any need for me to raise a concern, I would have been able to do so easily.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The HR team in particular has been extremely supportive in providing us updates and ensuring we have a means of communicating with anyone we need to.

    10/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • There was no salary and I feel reimbursement for travel and lunch would have been appropriate. A £5 lunch voucher was provided on the first day but after that we were self-sufficient.

    2/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • As the placement only lasts a week we have not been able to do much outside the office. However, being able to say that I completed Work Experience at Pinsent Masons seems as though it could provide many avenues for future employment.

    5/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The atmosphere is professional yet welcoming, and perfectly suited to students who have both decided on Law as a career or who are unsure. The programme is well organised and accessible, and provides valuable insight into the workings of a multi-national firm.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • It is a very competitive programme so a competitive application is required. Be honest and make sure to highlight your best qualities. Be open to learning and emphasise that you value the opportunity and what it could lead to in the future.
