  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm a database administrator working on a large public sector client. My job involves performing daily checks on databases, ensuring that scheduled jobs have run correctly, these can range from small issues that have occurred to large showstopping incidents. I'm also tasked with designing and building databases.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt a large amount of technical skills, I use the following daily Oracle SQL, MySQL, Linux, Java. I've also developed my interpersonal skills working at Capgemini. Ex: Communication, Team Working, Organisation and Time Management. Attending important meetings and working to deadlines have helped me to improve.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my day-to-day work, it provides unique and exciting challenges and also the opportunity to constantly learn on the job. Completing my university work alongside my day job is a challenge, but we are provided with additional days to study outside of work.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Capgemini?
  • I feel very valued. Although I am an apprentice I'm treated the same as other employees throughout the company and when on client site. As an apprentice I'm often given further opportunities to grow.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is structured well. It's split into different blocks which are outlined from start to finish, allowing you to see what you'll be studying and when.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I'm given a lot of support. During my initial training process all food and accommodation was provided for. They were also always only a phone call or a text away if need be which has really helped.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I'm supported with extra study days. My progress is also reviewed multiple times a year to consider me for a promotion and/or pay rise.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It's very good considering its an apprenticeship. I have enough money to cover rent, bills and food for the month. Along with being able to save money and have spare for hobbies.

  • I always get emails to be involved in charity events or help someone or other with a presentation.

  • Put a lot of time and effort into your application because its a very competitive selection process.
