I am a junior software engineer for Hewlett Packard Enterprise. My daily job roles vary from work requests, I get set coding tasks for the projects I have to complete the task then fill in all the needed documentation to send it off for review. Sometimes I do some reviewing or testing it all depends on what work is available.
Yes I have learnt how to code in C++ and C. I understand logical mapping programs and Linux commands as well as Windows terminal commands.
I do enjoy my job as It is such a good opportunity to have at such a young age introducing me to this kind of environment and the type of work that gets done. However there are a few flaws that are still being worked out but I am confident these will be sorted soon.
Personally not very, the company is too big to care about personal needs so that is a downside but my team I work with are very friendly welcoming and helpful so they make me feel like I am a valued member of the team.
Not well at all, there is almost no communication between me and my assessor and neither between the company and my assessor there is no real structure or help and it all seems very hit and miss.
I receive very little help for my training provider which is QA. If I send them a long email I will receive a one line answer about 7 days later. Completely useless.
A lot of support as there are many people around me to help and they all have a wide range of different skills and as long as you are polite and they are not too busy people are more than happy to give up some of there time to help you.
It is not enough for me to get by, at the moment I am slowly building up credit card debt as I cant affor the petrol to get to work. I was forced to buy a new car because my old one was dying and falling apart. I had no savings at all so had to get a car on finance so now I am left with £23 to myself a month with £160 of petrol on my credit card each month. To make it better after the 2 year apprenticeship finishes we will be doing the same job role as the graduates but they want to pay us £8000 less.
Yes there are lots of events going on as it is such a big company there is always something happening around me.
No
Lack of organization, communication, opportunity's and the pay rate.
Be confident and just relax as everyone here is very laid back and easy going, until a deadline is near then everyone panics.
