I am a software engineer apprentice which means that I have to look at pieces of code and figure out how to improve and fix them. I also get to help with some of the design work which helps the coding process.
I have developed on my team working skills which has also helped me develop on my communication skills. I am now putting them to good use on a regular basis and learning new skills.
I enjoy the programme as it is helping me with my work tasks and it is also giving me a better understanding of what it takes to be a successful software engineer.
I feel like I am part of the team and that I am valued due to the tasks that I am given and the people that talk to me, asking if i'm okay and enjoying it.
The programme itself is not structured or organised very well as the Apprenticeship company doesn't help a lot and doesn't aid when we are struggling. HPE is great but its a first for the area I am in to have apprentices.
Not a lot of support from the training provider unless we have a set training week. They come and check on us every 6-8 weeks but it doesn't change anything and they aren't very good at getting back to emails.
I receive a lot of support from my employer, providing free online books to read to increase my knowledge and people coming round to ask if there is anything I need help with.
The Salary is a bit low but it covers my costs. If it increases it would make me feel more comfortable and I wouldn't have to worry about my spending as much.
There are many events and classes which the company support and give us discount too, which allow us to try new things and learn new skills. I haven't used any of them yet but will do in the future.
Yes
Hewlett Packard Enterprise is a good company to work for and is great fun to be apart of. The only thing that lets it down is the apprenticeship company.
I would just tell them to be themselves and to be patient with the company as it may take them a while to get back to you but they will do it. Its also good to brush up on some basic coding.
