  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an multi skilled engineering apprentice, meaning that I am training to be both mechanically and electrically skilled. On a day to day basis I shadow other technicians, helping with the weekly maintenance and machinery breakdowns.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a number of new skills from the theoretical side at college as well as the practical side from work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the apprenticeship program, I particularly enjoy learning new skills whilst working at the same time.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by GSK?
  • I feel valued at GlaxoSmithKline, I have been assigned a number of projects which have been left to me to design, build and implement.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program has a good structure. As an engineering apprentice we spend around 3-4 months in each specific area of the factory in order to understand all of the different machinery.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive lots of support from my training provider, whilst at college the lectures are more than willing to help with any questions. Also whilst at work I receive lots of support from whoever I am working with. I also receive support from my mentor who helps organize training as well as helping me with any questions I have.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive quite a lot of support from my employer, financially they cover all of my travel costs to and from college, as well as anywhere else i need to travel to with work. There are also a number of departments on and off site which offer support financially and regarding occupational health.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary meets all of my costs, due to the fact that the company covers all of my travel costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a number of training courses offered outside of work which I have been enrolled on to help further my knowledge.

  • Yes

  • They have helped me acquire a number of skills whilst at work and college. As well as developing me as a person.
