  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role as an Access Planning Apprentice I learn about the various stages of the customer journey and the packs and work we do to help that. We also complete booklets and programmes working towards the apprenticeship and occasionally shadow other roles and employees to see who our E-packs go to and everyone's role in the customer journey.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am working towards a Level 3 as well as getting a qualification in ICT. As well as this I have learnt how to use new programmes and software in this new role and given proper training on how to use these.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • When I started I wasn't entirely sure what to expect as I'd never done anything like this before but I am really enjoying the programme and this opportunity. The team I work with in planning are all really nice and helpful and Virgin really is a great company to work for.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Virgin Media O2?
  • I always receive help and feedback when it is needed and I have guidance from my mentor and other planners which makes me feel like a valued member of the team I'm in and also Virgin. I feel valued when I complete job packs as I feel I'm contributing to Virgin Media in my work.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The induction in Birmingham was well organised and the apprenticeship programme afterwards is mapped out with different stages to be completed every few weeks until the end of the apprenticeship. We also get a study day every week (when possible) with the manager for our apprenticeship in our region. Also there is always support available.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training providers. My mentor is always available to ask questions on planning and to guide me through processes and packs that I'm still learning. My apprentice manager is available to help with the apprenticeship scheme and any questions about the process as well as any queries I may have about anything else.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive as much support as I need from everyone. Everyone in my team and involved in my apprenticeship are approachable and willing to help in whatever way they can.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Especially for an apprenticeship the salary is very generous as well as the other benefits that Virgin Media has to offer such as special rates on Virgin packages for employees and many other benefits on offer as well.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Virgin are charity focused and so there are opportunities to participate in events for charity outside of work. Also we have roadshows and training in other offices.

  • 9. Would you recommend Virgin Media O2 to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Virgin Media really is a great company to work for. As well as the benefits of working here the people are friendly and helpful, the job itself has goals and targets to encourage team work and also yourself. The working environment makes work an enjoyable place and the apprenticeship programme is well structured and I feel as if I'm getting a high standard of training which is helpful for me in this new role.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Virgin Media O2?
  • You should try and enjoy the application process and not to worry. Everyone who you interact with is helpful and wants you to be yourself and do well. On the assessment day you should listen, show interest and show what you can do.
