Job Title: Apprentice Engineer

Daily Tasks: Assisting of senior engineers in their duties.

Daily interactions: Other sections of the project, senior management, the client.

Daily interactions externally:

Responsibilities: Weekly checks on equipment, completing delegated tasks, writing of RAMS and permits, leading individual projects.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Gaining internal and external qualifications such as cat and genny, Level 3 in engineering, NVQ in construction and TMICE

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

9/10

I enjoy working within the team, outdoors work. The company is dedicated to improving staff with training.

4. How valued do you feel by Costain?

10/10

Continued feedback from management. Starting to build a name in the industry, respected by colleagues. My opinion is valued and asked for. I'm involved in all stages of the project.

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

10/10

Starting site induction Continued training as the job requires professional qualifications such as SSSTS Academic qualifications such as BTEC LVL 3 in Engineering. Continued support from mentors and tutors. Delegated tasks where I feel like i'm being challenged

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

10/10

My training provider has excellent tutors and if extra help is needed I can get it. It's easy to keep up to date with assignments as they are clearly presented and explained in a way in which there is little confusion

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

10/10

I receive constant support from my employer. I am able to ask for 1 to 1ns at any time I can always count on my colleagues for support

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

10/10

The apprenticeship salary is fixed at a competitive level and pay rises bi annually. There is travel allowances and a continued pay scale if I continue on to higher education

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

9/10

I can attend ICE Seminars. I have become a construction ambassador so I attend events and schools describing what it is like working in this industry.

9a. Would you recommend Costain to a friend? *

Yes

9b. Why? *

Because of continued support, training and a competitive salary, Costain is an excellent company to work for.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Costain? *

Apply online or be referred. Be enthusiastic about civil engineering Enjoy site work familiarize yourself with all aspects of Microsoft office CADD knowledge would help Interviews were originally handled by a 3rd party but the costain interview was professional.
