1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
I am a Technical Apprentice. I move around departments every 3 months. Within these departments, it is my aim to build upon skills and knowledge within that function. For example, whilst working the in the machine shop, I had to read technical drawings and manufacture the product using appropriate methods such as a lathe.
2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes. I have gained experience in soldering. I have built upon wiring skills and machining skills such as using a milling machine and lathe. I have gained skills in creating technical drawings and the use of CAD.
3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I really enjoy my programme. I am able to gain further education whilst gaining a full time wage. The skills set within the company is vast and varied which benefits my learning experience as I am able to learn from my colleagues experience.

It is very well organised. I have a timeline in place which tells me which department I should be in and when. Objectives are agreed with the department supervisor before entering the department so the apprentice knows what is expected of them. Reviews are carried out periodically to track your progress.
6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
I feel there is great support from my training provider. We have an Apprentice Manager on site who is there is you have any issues. Reviews are carried out every 12 weeks to see how you are progressing.
6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
I feel there is good support from my employer. There is a selection of departments to work in and there is good support from my colleagues in training me during my apprenticeship
7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
I think the salary is good in comparison to other similar apprenticeships. I think its great I can earn whilst at college. If I done college in my own time it would cost me a lot more to do so.
