Summer Intern in the BS&A department in Manchester Did scanning, rolling forward financial statements manually, entering journals on caseware, checking financial statements have the correct details, a bank reconcilliation
I have developed more Excel skills and also how to behave in a professional environment. I learnt more about what is involved in financial accounts and what the figures mean.
The people I worked with were very kind and welcoming. They explained things well and most tried their best to find more work for me to do. There definitely could have been more work throughout the 2 weeks, about 40% of the time I had nothing to do.
On the days where there was a good amount of work I felt valued and was trusted to get on with the work without any issues. Sometimes it felt like we were kind of forgotten when no one had any work for us.
It definitely could have been more organised. We only really started getting a lot of work in the second week, so it'd have been better if they'd come up with things that we could do beforehand.
We knew who to talk to if there was an issue. We were also informed of all the necessary things throughout the placement. However, we could definitely have used more occasional check up every other day or something so it felt like they cared. Though, it was good in a way that we felt more trusted to come and go without saying anything.
I spoke to my manager a few times for a job I had to do for her and then on the last day for the appraisal and leaving lunch. So, not much, but I didn't need it anyway since I had another person to speak to about any issues or questions.
I wasn't expecting to be paid for this, so it was good. The fact that we can get our money back for travelling costs is great too.
Only here for two weeks, so I'm not sure. But it's in the middle of Manchester, so I'd assume there's some pretty nice places for social activities near by.
Yes
The people seem really friendly, and although I may have had a lack of work to do sometimes, the actual staff always had work and seemed to really enjoy what they were doing. It's also one of the top accounting firms.
Don't stress about the interview, it's just like a conversation about your life with someone where you also get to ask questions about the firm you'd like answered.
