This work experience was in a high street solicitor's office which involved helping paralegals and trainee solicitors. Throughout the week we visited different departments which specialised in different areas of the law. My roles mainly involved carrying out legal research, doing admin tasks and familiarising myself with the routine of a major city law firm.
I have definitely improved my confidence in meeting new people and making new friends. I have developed my independence and the skill of problem solving, especially when trying to solve legal problems and acting like an business advisor.
I quite enjoyed my programme as everyday I encountered different work and met different people. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly, and ensured that my time here at Pinsent Masons was enjoyable.
I felt very valued at Pinsent Masons. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly. They were also very appreciative of the work I carried out and also encouraged me throughout.
The programme was very structured and organised as I liked the fact that you could visit different areas of the law firm every day to try and gain a broader picture into the life of a solicitor in a law firm. The meetings and presentations in the morning were also very helpful. To improve, perhaps the morning presentations could be rescheduled to later on in the day if a particular department visits the courts at a particular time and day.
I received vast support from my supervisors who provided great advice and also ensured that I understood the tasks I needed to carry out. If I had any questions, I felt I could ask them without hesitating and they always answered as clearly as possible.
The same as above. Everyone was very supportive and approachable. If I had a problem I could easily ask my employer.
Due to the law firm being in London, the only suitable mode of transport is the tube. In that respect, it can be quite costly and time-consuming. However the experience far outweighs these costs.
Outside of work I was invited to go to staff lunches which I found very friendly and helped me to be comfortable around my colleagues.
Yes
Because they offer a great insight into the life of a city solicitor and also help you to decide whether to pursue a career in law and if so, in what field of the law to have a career in.
I would advise other people applying to the law firm to not be afraid to ask questions.
