Research & Development – Refreshment Apprenticeship

Join us at Unilever’s R&D site at Colworth to build and contribute to a number of brands including Lipton, PG Tips, Flora, Magnum, Cornetto and Dove. Over 600 scientists, technologists, legal professionals and support staff work at Colworth on a diverse range of activities.

Colworth is home to the Global Design Centre for Beverages and Ice Cream, Regional Deploy Centre for Beverages, Unilever Safety and Environmental Assurance Centre, Discover and Critical Functions Capabilities such as Information and Technology for R&D, boasting one of the largest ice cream pilot plans and most northerly tea plantation.

Our R&D Refreshment apprenticeship scheme offers you the opportunity to study for a BSc in Foods or Chemical Science. Apprentices are given one day per week during term-time to study; this can be used for a ‘day release’ method of study or as dedicated study for a distance learning programme.

The scheme is designed to last for five years, during this time apprentices will be expected to develop both professionally and academically and to provide evidence of this development at set intervals.

Colworth, (Bedfordshire).

You need to have Sciences A-levels or equivalent at B grade or above (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and/or Maths).

Confidence, good communication and a passion for science are also key and you need to demonstrate commitment and initiative to manage the pressures that studying while working will bring.

You must also be prepared to take on work outside of your comfort zone and have a passion to succeed, as well as being a team player as collaboration is key at Unilever. With customers and consumers at the heart of what we do at Unilever, you should also always be looking for better ways to deliver to them.

Apprentices are enrolled on a programme of study which will allow them to work towards a BSc or equivalent degree in a given period of time. The apprenticeship could lead to a BSc in Food Science & Technology; Chemistry; or Chemical Science.
