About our Engineering Apprenticeships

Run in partnership with Coleg Y Cymoedd, our Engineering Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established, global aviation company that prides itself on offering career opportunities for talented individuals.

In your first year you’ll be based at Coleg Y Cymoedd full time, where you’ll gain the foundational engineering knowledge needed to set you up for a successful career with GE Aviation Wales. In Year 2 you’ll move to our Nantgarw site 4 days a week, with one day a week spent at college, before progressing to Year 3, where you’ll be with us onsite full-time.

During these last 2 years you’ll be provided with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience working on the engines we service, whilst also developing the skills needed to set you up for a successful career at GE Aviation.

Successful candidates will be placed into one of the three available apprenticeship schemes depending on preference, availability and skill set. These are Mechanical, Electrical and Machining. We therefore ask that you state your preference in your covering letter when making your application.

As one of the largest commercial aircraft engine maintenance facilities in the world, with annual sales of over $2.9bn, the business works with over 90 customers worldwide, including Emirates, TUI, Lufthansa, Delta, United, ANA and British Airways.
At our Wales facility in Nantgarw, just north of Cardiff, we specialise in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of a range of commercial jet engines. We occupy 1.2 million square foot of workshop space, and have 2 state-of-the-art aircraft engine testing facilities, along with a significant repair capability.

In 2017, we were selected as the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility of choice for the GE9X; which will become the world’s largest and most fuel-efficient jet engine when it launches into service. The site will benefit from a £5m investment from the Welsh Government to support the total £20m investment put forward by the business, to equip and upskill the facility to be ready to maintain the GE9X fleet when it enters service on the new Boeing 777X aircraft.
