About the role
It takes a lot of people to make one toilet roll and our engineers, technicians and process operators play a key role in making this happen.
Join Essity as a Manufacturing Engineer Apprentice and you will have the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge to understand how we make tissue, turn it into the finished product and maintain the machinery. Our Manufacturing Engineer Apprenticeship is designed to create our technicians and engineers of the future – a great opportunity to launch your career.
What you will do
The Manufacturing Engineer Apprenticeship blends college and work based technical skills training. Whilst at work you will have the opportunity to put your learning into practice with the support of knowledgeable and experienced teams.
Depending which route you take, the apprenticeships are structured as follows:
Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Standard (5 years) - you will spend your first year at college and in years two to five you will complete work-based learning on site with day release to college for one day per week
Engineering Operative Standard (3 years)– in your first year you will spend two days per week completing work-based learning on site and attend college for three days per week. Years two and three will be based on site.
You will complete your apprenticeship with a robust set of qualifications, knowledge and skills providing a strong platform to work in our production teams and develop a long-lasting career with Essity.
Who You Are
We would love to hear from you if you can show the following
- A minimum of GCSE grade 5/C (achieved or predicted) in maths, English, science and two other subjects
- The ability to solve problems from information gathered by yourself
- You can work collaboratively with others and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- You like to take on new challenges and work outside of your comfort zone
- You can successfully balance study while participating in other activities

If you are successful you may be offered a role following either the Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Standard or, the Engineering Operative Standard. Your start date will be September 2021.
