Operator Level 3 Apprenticeship

Role Purpose

Be responsible for working on the production line to ensure that products are processed efficiently and to the required quality standards.

To complete 24-month Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship programme in Food Processing. Training will be delivered on site by an external training provider working closely with on-site mentors.

Workshops will cover food safety, health and safety, preventative maintenance activities and Continuous Improvement (CI) techniques. On completion of this programme, you will be able to evaluate and make improvements to safety, quality and performance in the food factory environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support Operations on the line under supervision of Grade 5 Operatives
  • Undertake various line operations once training completed
  • Understand and apply the Company quality standards and practices that are in place
  • Be able to complete running checks on the line i.e. checking codes and seals (providing the PQC training modules had been completed and signed off) at 4 weeks’ service
  • Understand and apply correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements
  • Identify safety hazards and potential issues on the line
  • Be able to identify and safely use stop buttons
  • Maintain departmental GMP and hygiene standards at all times
  • Maintain good housekeeping ensuring that the work area is always clean; tools are correctly cleaned and stored; spillages are cleaned up immediately and defects reported
  • Contribute to the decision-making process
  • Support the successful running of the production line in order to meet targets
  • Conduct informal Process Quality Control (PQC) checks and report finding to Grade 6/5 Operator, e.g. visual inspections of Best Before End (BBE) and seals
  • Be trained and assessed to isolate equipment in order to clean parts only (providing the Grade 7 H&S training modules have been completed and signed off) at 4 weeks’ service and following the isolation of a Grade 6/5 Operator in accordance with instructions and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Perform cleaning activities as per daily/ weekly schedules under the guidance of a Grade 6/5 Operator
  • Carry out tasks involved in running the line with supervision of a Grade 6/5 operator e.g. loading packaging and labelling
  • Work with Grade 6/5 Operators in order to gain knowledge and undertake relevant training
  • Apply the correct cleaning standard between running products according to the cleaning schedule i.e. salt clean; allergen clean; etc. to avoid cross-contamination under supervision
  • Understand and meet output targets
  • Understand the running of the line and the names and roles of the main pieces of equipment
  • Complete the apprenticeship assignments
  • Attend all workshops ensuring flexibility of attendance outside of the usual shift pattern
  • Seek feedback from colleagues
  • Prepare for and participate in apprenticeship review meetings with the designated mentor
  • Unless exempt, expected to complete level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English ap part of the apprenticeship
  • Complete the portfolio as agreed with the Tutor and ensure all learning is signed off by the relevant parties
  • Self-motivated to drive own training, with a desire to achieve relevant competencies

Please note, this role requires medical fitness to perform physically demanding tasks such as standing; moving; repetitive movements; observations; bending; lifting; carrying small loads; operating machinery and power palletisers

Desirable

  • Food Industry experience or interest
  • GCSEs in one other science, preferably chemistry or physics
