Will circuit training get your career in shape?
Provisioning Engineers design, plan and configure the telecommunications circuits of our ground-breaking network that serves Virgin Media Business (VMB) customers
Our Provisioning Engineer Apprenticeship Scheme welcomes both women and men to gain a complete understanding of our award-winning technical business practices – while making sure our valued customers are well catered for.
At Virgin Media, all our Apprenticeship Schemes are offered on permanent contracts. And, around 90% of apprentices stay on with us – while others will have gained transferable skills that are sought after elsewhere.
Let’s talk about what you’ll be doing…
As a Provisioning Engineer, you’ll get fantastic guidance from your scheme mentor and other workmates. You’ll learn how to design and implement layer 2 and layer 3 IP VPN (Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network) solutions for customers ranging from small businesses to the government’s Public Services Network (PSN).
Our IP VPN services bring voice, data and video together on a single, private network that travels at ultra-fast speeds using our next generation fibre network – connecting our customers’ sites in all sorts of exciting ways.
Eventually, you’ll be able to configure large, complex layer 3 network changes as directed by our business customers. Working closely with our project coordinators and third-party vendors like BT and Vodafone, you will get the chance to build, provide and upgrade circuits on a variety of bearer types. And, you’ll also get to commission and provide our very own WDM and TDM platforms.
How are you going to get there?
This Apprenticeship role is open to women and men who have a solid understanding of telecommunication standards and best practices within technical provision. Experience routing a variety of protocols and technologies, creating configurations, circuit provisioning, testing and troubleshooting will grab our attention!
You’ll also need to be a master communicator with excellent customer service skills and an appreciation of the issues involved in a customer focused environment. We want you to take ownership of queries, escalate them when necessary, and come to swift resolutions that satisfy our customers.
As a technical role, you should have an A-level in a STEM* based subject and GCSEs in Maths and English (Grades C+/4-9) or equivalent. Specific technical qualifications, such as a National Diploma in electronics or telecommunications, and certified IT routing, switching and provisioning skills will also set you apart.
So, what can we do for you?
During the scheme, you’ll gain all the experience, understanding and exposure to our leading business practices that you’ll need to kick start a successful provisioning career – and we’ll pay you a decent salary with amazing benefits while we prepare your future!
In 2017, we announced our long-term vision of achieving 50/50 gender parity by 2025. It’s super-important for us to reflect equality and diversity in our workforce, especially for STEM* based subjects – and that’s why we’re encouraging men and women to hone their technical skills with us.
We are looking for technically minded women and men with the personable skills to forge relationships with customers and colleagues – and the confidence to challenge the status quo to improve our performance.
Join Virgin Media… Come and be a part of something special!
(*STEM based subjects are those that fall under Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths disciplines)
