Level 3 Apprenticeship

Luke McAllister, Business Administration Apprentice

After finishing work at Thorpe Park, I decided that I wanted a career within a business environment and so applied for local apprenticeships in my area on a national apprenticeship website. I received a response from Enterprise Rent-A-Car based in Thorpe and was invited to their headquarters for a one-to-one interview with Guildford College who would be providing the apprenticeship through Enterprise. I was then asked to attend a second interview, this time with the managers at the company. This interview must have gone well, as one week later I got a call to tell me that I’d got the job!

I am now Billing Assistant in Team Fleet and doing Level 2 in Business Administration. As a team, we take care of the major businesses that hire from us, such as BT and Royal Mail. The training here has been amazing and I am surprised how much I’ve learned in such a short space of time. I’ve already had a 3 month review and have been told that I’m exceeding requirements in certain areas. I have also been set goals for the future which I’m already achieving. I get plenty of time to do my college work around my actual job and also have help on hand if I’m stuck with anything. I have an assessor who comes in around every two weeks and we go over previous work and set new work to do, all going towards my NVQ. I’ve also made good friends within the company already and have attended career fairs representing Enterprise, talking to young people about apprenticeships.

Overall, I am very happy with the job and the training provided, I am looking forward to what the future holds and where it will take me.

What does his employer, Emma Evans, say?

Luke has shown to be a very hard working team member and puts all his efforts into ensuring he is learning everything he can to progress himself within our team. On a daily basis his work ethic is great and he completes a high amount of work as well as helping others to complete their work.

He has shown great initiative and is learning all aspects of our team very quickly. He has settled into our department very well and is clearly happy at how much he is learning.

This is a great opportunity for him to grow and decide his own career path within Enterprise as he develops and gets to learn about the Billing and Payments department as a whole, alongside other departments which he hopefully will get a chance to experience in the future.

I think the Apprentice programme with Guildford College has given us an excellent employee who is full of fresh ideas and initiative. I hope we can receive others who have the same attitude and appetite for work as Luke has.

I am pleased to be in a position to help Luke progress through his Apprenticeship and it is nice to see him learning this alongside his day to day job as it will give him extra skills and perhaps a different outlook on his job.
