Level 4 Project Management Apprenticeship

I joined AQA in January 2023 on an apprenticeship as a Level 4 Associate Project Manager within the Project Management Office team. In my role, I provide all kinds of resources and support for project managers, from taking and circulating meeting minutes, to collecting reports and turning them into digestible packs to be presented.

I like the fact that there’s a range of tasks in my role which gives me freedom and allows me to complete tasks within my own time, using methods which work the best for me. In my role I also get to work alongside a range of people from across the business, which has been a great opportunity for me to network and get an insight into multiple business areas.

I always knew that I wanted to do an apprenticeship after school as I knew that university wasn’t for me. I was drawn to AQA specifically because I wanted to be able to work in a supportive environment whilst working towards a professional qualification. I enjoy working at AQA as there is an amazing work culture. I’ve never struggled to receive support from any of my colleagues from any of the wider business areas, which is important when completing an apprenticeship as there’s so much to take in!

One of my highlights at AQA so far was being part of the Unlocking Potential Scheme, which works with students with high-potential but who might have mental/physical health or personal issues. I was able to assist in social events, including helping in development activities such as a Dragon’s Den event where I was a dragon, giving feedback and advice on the students’ presentation skills. I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this, and it was rewarding seeing the students succeed to earn their award at the end of the scheme.

For anybody thinking about applying for an apprenticeship at AQA, my advice would be to do some research and prepare yourself for the interview. I’d also recommend just being yourself – Being able to have a good conversation and a laugh will go a long way!
