I manage a process improvement team, we support individuals and teams to analyse existing processes and ways of working, and identify opportunities for incremental improvements.
I have been able to enhance existing leadership skills through my on-the-job study. I have also developed my academic study and research skills on the academic side of the apprenticeship.
I enjoy the academic side of the course, however the apprenticeship side of the course has been disappointing so far with very little support coming from the provider.
The academic side feels well structured, however there is a disconnect between the academic modules and the apprenticeship standards. It can be very difficult to align the academic content with the KSB's listed on the training plan.
I already work for this employer, so from my own personal manager I receive full support to complete the work needed for my apprenticeship.
This has been the most disappointing aspect so far. I already work for this employer/training provider so I would have expected a seamless experience but this has not been the case. The onboarding experience was unclear and confusing. I had one initial meeting with an apprenticeship coach 8 weeks after starting, but have no contact from a coach since then due to the coach leaving and then a staff restructure - myself, and many others on my cohort don't really know what is expected of us in terms of gathering evidence, or when we will next have an opportunity to speak to a coach to ask questions.

I would recommend Sheffield Hallam University as a place of employment, however I would not recommend it as a training provider for those looking to do an on-the-job degree apprenticeship.
Try Leeds Uni instead.
