  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I provide care and learning opportunities to children - I carry out car routine like nappy changes, feeding and putting to sleep as well as ensuring the environments we set up at enriching and promote play and education. I work closely with the families to ensure their children are developing 'typically' and raise concerns to the appropriate services if I have worries about their child's safeguarding or development.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I honestly feel that there isn't a day I come home without having learned something new - I have, of course, learned many practical skills but I also feel that my interpersonal skills have improved greatly. I am a much more confident person than I was at the beginning of my apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme. I'll be honest, at times it's a lot trying to balance a full time job on top of my studying however I wouldn't change anything. I feel that the education I receive on the job is just as beneficial as the written or theory work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that my programme is very well structured. I can freely contact my assessor and feel confident to speak to her for advice around both work and my studies. I have an adequate amount of work to complete at any one time and I like the fact that I can complete my qualification at a pace as fast or slow as I work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from my employer. They make sure to distribute study time between apprentices and, where possible, arrange this weekly. Staffing wise, it is difficult to guarantee time out each week but they make a very real effort to ensure this happens. They check in and make sure I know that they are there if I need their support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive lots if support, I am in a grouo chat with my assessor and other learners where I receive reminders, tips and just generally positive messages to say that my assessor is there is we need her. In our reviews, my assessor takes a positive tone and even in areas where things could be better, she supports me without making me feel inadequate.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • With the training I receive from my training provider, I feel I perform better in my role as I am more confident in my knowledge and ability to support the children and their families. I learn the practical element and then have the opportunity to put the theory into practice daily.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • This is a company that truly makes me feel appreciated and wanted. They go above and beyond to recognise hard work and make sure that they are a safe place to go should need any support or help. I feel as though I am friend with many of my colleagues and it shows in the way our tema functions.
